Dance Becomes Me

Dance Becomes Me
By: James Dubeau

Living on the razor
I step cautiously upon the blade
The knife edge slices into my flesh
Greasy blood trails in my wake
Careful not to slip
Not to fall
To either side
A cough emerges
From my parched throat
Keeping me awake
Though the midnight hours
Not permitting sleep
Peaceful rest
To rejuvenate my body
Hunger aches deep in my belly
My soul cries
With a cracking voice
I can do this
Silent at first
But growing
Stronger
Louder
No longer do I fear
Swirling storm clouds
Or a heaven turned black
Big wet drops plummet
Washing away my blood soaked trail
And razor transforms
To a moss covered garden path
I am drenched from head to toe
Smiling
Dance becomes me

Dark Days

Dark Days
By: James Dubeau

Staring into the darkness
Can’t tell if my eyes
Are open
Or closed
Rain rattles against the window
Closing me in
Cutting off
The rest of the world
Wetness wells in my eyes
Shivers down my body
I don’t want to be alone
Not right now
Not on these dark days

Midnight Hour

Midnight Hour
By: James Dubeau

Staring into the darkness
I can’t tell
If my eyes are open
Or closed
If I am alive
Or dead
Rain rattles against the window
Closing me in
Cutting off the rest of the world
Wetness wells in my eyes
My body trembles
I don’t want to be alone
Not right now
Not on these dark days

On This Night

On This Night
By: James Dubeau

On this night
Of storms and such
I do want
To write so much
But my eyes
Grow weak and weary
Days been long
With rain and dreary
I must sleep
To gain my strength
Must be done
At any length

While Storms Rage

While Storms Rage
By: James Dubeau

Flash of light
Thunder strike
Head lay deep
In pillows heaped
Through closed eyes
Images shine through
Keeping me awake
Through the storm
Would these thoughts
Should these thoughts
Could these thoughts
Mean much more
Or just phantoms
Setting me up
For great failure
Now is time
For relaxation
Closed eyes sing
While mind wonders
Maybe some day
Phantoms will dance
While storms rage
On the other side
Of the window

Stormy Day

Stormy Day
By: James Dubeau

A squirrel sits perched
Atop the swaying birch
Wind had picked up
Clouds gathered
Darkening the sky
Storms are brewing
Falling drops of rain
Splattering water falls
Pelting leaves atop the tree
Running down the squirrel’s face
He darted left and right
Jumping from branch to branch
Unable to decide where to run
Each path led to failure
There was no reprieve
No matter which way he ran
Water pelted his progress
Leaving one drowned rodent
