Barroom Band
By: James Dubeau
The barroom band rocks
Swaying
Jumping
Singing
Quickened beats skitter
Across checkered tile
Guitar and drums
Barroom standards
Set the tempo
Leaving the sax
Xylophone
And saw
To fill in odd melodies
Intoxicating the night air
Throwing patrons
With beers in hand

Fourth
Fourth
By: James Dubeau
The field is aglow
With the light
Of a thousand
Fireflies
Giving us four
Our own private
4th of July
Off in the distance
Booms echo
Off the trees and buildings
Surrounding
The inner city parkland
Distant flashing lights
Atop the hospital
Radio towers
And boom cranes
Add to the entertainment
As the four walk
Hand in hand
Watching dusk rise

Casino Night
Casino Night
By: James Dubeau
When the night
Is still young
The young do say
Lets us go out and play
And before you know it
You are thrown in a car
To travel two states away
On a mighty quest
In search of drink
Casinos
And a bit of trouble
Before too long
Drinks are drunk
And dice are rolled
And one arm bandits
Are wrestled
A stranger at the bar
Buys a round
For all the couples
Making assumptions
On a pair of cousins
Free drinks which cannot
Be refused
Just before last call
Two fistfuls of drinks
Are pounded down
Except for the Irish
Which is slowly enjoyed
Hidden away
In the Styrofoam cup
Minutes turn to hours
Stars and moon
Set outside
While the revelry continues under
Unsetting fluorescents
Second winds become cashed
Pockets are emptied
And eyes grow heavy
The young ride off
Into the sunrise

Vacation Haiku Day
Hopefully you won't mind, but since I'm on vacation I didn't really have a chance to finish a poem for today. So, I'll post some Haikus that I wrote today in a Haiku inspired email conversation I had with friends today. Thank you for reading and please enjoy.
I am so sorry
What it takes escapes today
I cannot converse
You guys are awesome
Thank you very much Brandon
Isn't this much fun?
That is no haiku
You are counting syllables
Write a good poem
Dearest Nathanial
Depends on how you say words
Fudge syllable count

Night With Friends
Night With Friends
By: James Dubeau
Jack by the door
Jameson needing more
White sand washes
Across the floor
There are no fears
As the cheers
Ring across
Flowing beers
Tunes wave through
Cats meow and mew
All enjoy
A nice tasty brew
The night shall be good
Alls right in the hood
We will enjoy ourselves
As you would

Sitting Around the Table
Sitting Around the Table
By: James Dubeau
Sitting around the table
Friends and family sitting
Flanking on either side
Along the small round room
Plates full of food
Glasses full of wine
Cheer filled the air
Happy new couple at the head
Birthday girl on the right
Songs of joy ring our
Mixed with laughter
As food is consumed
On this wonderful evening

Antics Swirl Around
Spin, spin, spin
I whirl and twirl
In the mosey meadow
Colors swirling around
Blue sky and white clouds
Green grass and grey stones
And my lemon-chiffon sundress
All whirling and twirling
As I spin through the field
Falling on my back
With my eyes closed
A smile crosses my lips
Before it is shattered
In a hail of giggles
I whirl and twirl
In the mosey meadow
Colors swirling around
Blue sky and white clouds
Green grass and grey stones
And my lemon-chiffon sundress
All whirling and twirling
As I spin through the field

I Like Words
I like words. I like words that are fun to say, fun to write, fun to type, or even fun to hear. Actually, I like more then just words. I like phrases as well. I keep a few stocked up in my mental reserves so that I can whip them out at a moments notice.
Banana fudge cake Sunday is one such phrase. When I am at a loss for words I like to just throw it out there. It catches people off guard so well that it re-sparks conversation all by itself.
Good morning is another good phrase to say at any time of the day. The looks and reactions you get by saying good morning at three in the afternoon are just priceless.
Where were we is probably one of my absolute favorites. The way it sounds, how easily it flows off the tongue or fingertips. The words are so similar that it is just so much fun.
