“All we have to deal with now is Coldwell, beasts, and the temple that is sure to be trapped with the most ingenious traps that those ancient minds could devise.” Kale did not seem too enthused when he spoke. “With any luck we should make it through the night without being eaten. I should hope that any beasts would be scared away from this area for a while due to the pirate’s activities.”
“I should hope so,” Shay agreed as she stopped and rested on a fallen tree. “I think we are far enough from the airship.”
Moonlight shone through the trees. Kale’s eyes adjusted to the darkness. With the fear of escaping from the pirates finally out of his mind finally observed the condition which Shay was in. Covered in cuts and bruises from the battles she had been in on the pirate airship. “Look at you. You’re a mess. Let’s get those wounds bandaged up.”
“Funny thing is that it doesn’t hurt,” Shay said as she dug through her pack and retrieved a roll of gauze that they could use to wrap up her injuries. She removed her shirt so that Kale could better attend to her wounds. Moonlight hit the jewel pendant that hung from the platinum chain around the girl’s neck; the surrounding area was seemingly bathed in a dull blue light.
Kale took the gauze and wrapped it around the girl’s body, first covering the deep gash in her side first then wrapping over other injuries that the girl had. He paid attention to the task at hand and did not bother looking at the jewel. The dim blue light seemed to make his job easier, as he could make out her body easier than in the dim moonlight alone. The tree cover had blocked most of the dim moonlight.
Shay dangled the jewel pendant in front of her, letting the chain stay wrapped around her neck. She did not feel any pain as the beauty of the jewel drew her in. After a few minutes Kale coughed, the girl looked up from the jewel and saw that he had finishing bandaging her injuries. Embarrassed by the distraction of the jewel, the girl quickly threw on her shirt and tucked the necklace under it.
